Week 2 - Wednesday Afternoon - Eddie

[ Breakfast went swimmingly. Boa at least finished his meal before going off to sulk somewhere - as far away from Usagi as possible. He ends up at the beach in front of the designated swimming area, angrily tossing rocks into the water.

Seems like the mood is still abysmally low here. ]

[It took a while for Eddie to find Boa. He'd already talked to Usagi, but didn't want to leave his friend alone to sulk. When he finally finds him he walks over, clearing his throat a little so he doesn't startle him.]

Uh...hey, Boa.

[finalguard]

[ Another rock gets tossed into the water and disappears with a splash before Boa turns around. ]

... hey.

[ Boa seems apprehensive, not really sure what Eddie wants from him right now. ]

[Eddie walks over to him, leaning over and picking up a rock of his own.]

You okay?

[finalguard]

Sure.

[ It doesn't sound like a very convincing answer. ]

Just a slap isn't that painful.

[itsagazebo]

I wasn't just talking about that slap... though that did sound like it hurt.

[He tosses his rock and it hits the water with a satisfying PLUNK]

There's no reason not to be alright.

[ A pretty convoluted statement that relies on rationalization more than anything else - rationalization is sure Boa's favourite tool at camp. ]

She just said a lot of dumb stuff.

She's... not completely wrong, though. [quickly] I mean... don't get me wrong, I totally agree with you that going back to the RV park or into the woods at all is a colossally dumbass idea!

I just... I don't like the idea of sitting around hoping no one's gonna kill me.

[finalguard]

Well, for starters, you don't just hope, you make sure no one does.

[ Boa huffs. ]

But it's not like I don't want to get out of here either. It's not like I want 14 more people to die either.

But as long as we don't think up a better option, that's what we got. I'm not letting my life end here because one girl couldn't sit still.

How the fuck am I supposed to make sure no one kills me? Or... or Richie, or you?!

[No, really, he actually wants to know!

He sighs, scrubbing a hand over his face.]

Okay... okay, okay, okay. So... we just gotta be smart about this right?

[finalguard]

Yeah. Look, you've survived a monster before. This can't be that much worse.

[ Though on second thought... ]

I think being smart is the main point, but training self defense against humans couldn't hurt for you either.

[itsagazebo]

Self defense?! Like... how to fight?

[He shakes his head, SO UNSURE]

I... I don't know if I could do that...

[finalguard]

[ Yeah, Boa's... not sure Eddie could do that either. But after what he learned about the other's home, he's taken a lesson on underestimating. ]

Better than being helpless in an ambush, isn't it?

[itsagazebo]

I... I guess?

[He still looks really unsure]

Are you offering to teach me?

[finalguard]

Practice together, yes.

It's not like I know how to fight people properly either... I've got muscle training going for me, but that's it.

[ He's probably better at punching than he has any right to be, just because of all that damn arm training, but technique..... well. None. ]

[itsagazebo]

How can I practice what I don't know in the first place? I... I've never really hit anybody.

[He frowns. No, really. He's smacked Richie a few times, but never any serious punching.]

[finalguard]

Never? Really?

[ Huh...... ]

Well, I can teach you that if nothing else. For anything advanced we should see if one of the soldiers can help us.

[itsagazebo]

Well... not with my hands, anyway. I mean, I kicked It in the face, and I hit It with a pipe a few times. Then there was the time we threw rocks at Henry and his goons... but other than that I've never really hit anyone.

[He thinks about Boa's suggestion for a second]

Yeah, I think that's a good idea. We need all the help we can get, right?

[finalguard]

[ That list gets a grin. Leave it to Eddie to seem tiny and harmless one moment, then give such an account in the next. ]

Honestly? That's a pretty solid foundation for self defense. Maybe having something like rocks to distract someone with is actually an even better idea than fists.

[itsagazebo]

Yeah? [He grins right back]

Maybe I should start collecting rocks.

[finalguard]

That'll slow anyone down if you have good aim. And you've got experience.

So that's a start, we'll see about the punching part later.

[itsagazebo]

[He nods]

Stick to what I'm good at, right?

[finalguard]

At least for life or death situations, yeah.
